Hospitality

My hospitality skills aren't tested very often but I always find myself lacking in this area. I think that due to our location (and probably my personality too) we don't entertain very often. In fact I can't remember the last time a non-family member crossed our threshold.

This week we played host to my sister and my nephew for a couple of nights. It was fun to have a few days of frivolity with my family from afar that I don't see nearly as much as I would like.

Afternoon tea, some assistance with a hairdressing issue and a semi-comfortable place to sleep was about as far as my hostessing skills stretched. I'm sure she will come back though.

I was even so terrible as to make her do some chores. Collecting the eggs in the places that are hard to reach and tending the sheep.
Having a home that is more inviting and friendly to others is something I would like to work on. I don't think I will be hosting any major events any time soon but maybe a morning tea or two could be a start.

Hi Tracy, I like your blog. I have to say that I would much prefer a visit to your place and do all the things you mention than sit around making small talk - especially if that cake if up for grabs!

I'm sure she will be back for a visit down the track-I hear you on the feeling of being inadequate at hosting but her smiling face says she enjoyed your company and more than likely enjoyed doing the different daily chores, cheers Vickie

You were very hospitable and the lovely layer cake was just what we needed after our long drive. Of course some cream would have just topped it off (ha ha)!! Thanks for letting us sleep over. Kel and Ted xxoo.

I also feel I don't host guests as much as I would like, but having said that I am having two of my brothers and their families over for lunch tomorrow to celebrate Fathers' Day. Even though it seems like some extra work, I never regret giving over a day to having people over.

I have found the entertaining that I enjoy is when a good friend visits and we just blend into each others conversations and time runs away from us. that doesnt always happen but when it does, that is real entertaining!

I am reminded again that it is better to give than to recieve. That is what hospitality is all about in my opinion!

Blessings!
