On My Mind- Finances

Finances are on my mind today. Not in a worrying kind of way, just wondering. What is happening with the economy and what it means to people? The media is full of stories of doom and gloom for the economy not just of Australia but the world but I'm not sure what impact it has on most people in their day-to-day life.

My aim is to stay unaffected by any downturn that eventuates. Spend less, grow more and stay happy living simply (well as simply as possible).

This is the first time I have joined Rhonda's On My Mind Friday so I am hoping I have linked up properly.

Hi Tracy. What a gorgeous part of the world you live in. The mountains behind in the photos look so inviting. We have a similar sized place to yours. Cows instead of sheep(I'm thinking of adding some) and I would love to know more about the turkeys. Will do a bit more digging on your blog and come back with some questions. Thanks, Alison

I wonder about it too Tracy... I live on one income because my partner has gone back to uni, so things are tight. We pay a reasonable mortgage and don't live extravagantly but I can only imagine how hard it is for others in the world who really have to work hard to live...
Sometimes I just want to leave the city and live in a hut in the bush!

Now is a good time to tighten the purse strings. We are a one income family and are always careful with our money anyway. Not sure what is going to happen but like you Tracy we hope we are prepared...

Thanks for visiting my blog- it means I have discovered yours which I think I am going to enjoy very much.I wonder about what is going to happen too.We just keep on being careful with our money, not buying on credit, making do and mending and growing as much as we can.

Definitely on my mind as well. A lot of us grow our own food and try to live frugally, but I wonder how well others will be able to adjust.

I have also been thinking about the same thing lately - wondering how bad things will get, and trying to simplify and learn to do more things myself. This blog is a good example for that sort of thing.

For us the past 2 years have been quite stressful and uncertain but we've decided to just choose to be happy no matter what and live each day to our fullest as we've really come to realize that NO ONE knows what tomorrow will bring. My husband thought that he'd never be laid off but was in April 2009. He has had some temporary work but we've had to struggle some months and ask for help from his Mother (which we hated doing but would have lost our home by now if we hadn't) We have "returned home" in more ways than the physical presence of being here with cooking all our meals and using leftovers until they are completely gone. We've put more effort into our garden and plan to improve it more this Fall so future gardens will produce more and most of all we aren't buying a bunch of useless garbage and have started shopping at Thrift Store's. The times of "just put it on the card" are over and for us we will NEVER go that in debt ever again. Hang in there - it's not over yet!
