I like to keep things real. Honesty and authenticity in people is something I value very highly so I am honest and true. That's probably a bit too deep for a post about my rose garden but it's the truth.
On close inspection my rose garden is looking decidedly lovely. Even if I say so myself. I take no credit for the loveliness though so I'm not being vain, just complimenting the natural beauty of flowers.

My messy rose garden |
To keep it real though, on not such a close inspection, it's actually overgrown with Wandering Jew and Johnsons grass. No matter how I try I really can't find much beauty in that at all and I do take credit for the messy state of affairs. I have a number of excuses ranging from wet weather, busy holiday time and so on. Just excuses. In actuality, I've been putting off the regular weeding in there and they just keep growing like... weeds. There are four beds in the rose garden. I weeded one thoroughly today which I'm pleased about. It was the smallest one because I'm not quite ready to give up my laziness. Maybe tomorrow.
There were a couple of treasures discovered. Potatoes growing from the compost I spread last year. Most likely I would have pulled these out a month ago but now they are flowering and I might be able to gather a few potatoes from them. They don't look too bad either.

Oh Tracy I love your garden.xx
Good on you for keeping it real. Most of my garden photos are close ups of blooms for the same reason, but my weeds never seemed to look so lush. At least you are getting into the weeding now - more than I ever did. Roses really are beautiful and amazingly tough, for something so delicate looking.
You have some nice roses. My wife planted one last year and even after -15C it still has green leaves.
I had potatoes come up like that one year and they eventually had fruit that looked a little like a tomato so I planted the seeds the next year and potato plants grew.
I love roses and love taking photos of them-all colors--
I just love love that last pink one--the color the petals--
thanks for sharing--
smiles, di and miss gracie
Tracy, your roses are lovely ...close up or not. I am the same regarding the weeds from all the rain. They need to be pulled out but ..... rain is forecast today so what's the hurry :-)
your roses are gorgeous. Don't worry about the weeds :).
Mine are doing really well too and the smell of one outside my bedroom window is divine.
What beautiful roses I love them all especially the red one I bet it is very fragrant too. Don"t the weeds love to grown in your flower beds but this is still delightful Tracy.
One good thing about weeding around the roses is that you would be able to smell them! How awesome that you found a potato plant.
Such lovely roses Tracy. I think your garden looks lovely, a bit like the cottage look :)

I love potato flowers. They are so simple and that little yellow center seems like a little sun. Hope you got tatter out of it.
Just a an dyk (did you know) that potato plant does have a fruit? it looks just like a tomatillo, and it is really rare to get (at least in Latin america but Peru)
